Willie ‘Say Hey’ Mays Turns 84

Willie Mays is known as one of the greatest baseball players in the history of the game and is now turning 84.

Born on May 6, 1931, “The Say Hey Kid” went on to play 22 seasons in the majors with the Giants and finished his career with the Mets. The Westfield, Alabama native became a 20-time All-Star and received two MVP awards in 1954 and 1965.

Mays could very well be known as one of the finest all-around baseball players to pick up a bat. He finished his career with a batting average of .302, 3,283 hits, 1,903 RBI’s, and 660 HR.

With his big league swing and his stunning ability to track down balls, Willie Mays was finally inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1979.

After his prominent baseball career, “The Say Hey Kid” stayed heavily involved with the game while creating “The Say Hey Foundation” to assist disadvantaged children with their education while supporting the community. It is said that Mays received his nickname through his positive influence and upbeat attitude while playing stickball with the local kids in his community.

In honor of Willie Mays’ 84th birthday, FanRag Sports would like to wish him a happy birthday.
