White Sox center fielder Leury Garcia has played in just one game since jamming his left hand into second base while sliding on June 11, and the team placed him on the 10-day disabled list Monday with a sprained finger on his left hand.

“Just bruising, some inflammation,” White Sox manager Rick Renteria said Sunday to the Chicago Tribune. “It’s annoying, obviously. You need your hands to swing the bat and to catch the ball. He’s able to do normal things. We’re just trying to see how quickly he can get away from the soreness with things of impact.”

Leury Garcia, 26, who’s disabled list stint is retroactive to Friday, entered Thursday’s game against the Baltimore Orioles after right fielder Avisail Garcia was ejected but told the Chicago Tribune the injured hand was sore the following day.

Garcia has set career highs in home runs (6), RBIs (22) and doubles (9) through 56 games with the White Sox this season, with a slash line of .298/.345/.459. He’s made 43 starts in center field for the White Sox this season. He was well on his way to setting his career high of 74 games played, which he set in 2014 when he hit .166 in 145 at-bats.

Alen Hanson and Willy Garcia have spelled him during his absence thus far.

The White Sox acquired Leury Garcia as the player to be named later in August 2013 in the deal that sent Alex Rios to the Texas Rangers.

Chicago trails the Tampa Bay Rays by 3.5 games for the second American League Wild Card spot.
