With the NHL Awards Show and the draft taking place, last week felt like hockey season again. Unfortunately, training camps don’t actually open for another two and a half months. But there are still two big events for fans to keep and eye on in July.
One is prospect camp, as most teams hold open-to-the-public evaluations of the top up-and-coming talent in their system. And the other, of course, is the frenzy known as free agency.
There aren’t necessarily any game-breaking, superstar names set to hit the open market this summer, at least not as UFAs, but that doesn’t mean some key pieces won’t be available. And that’s not accounting for RFAs and trades that figure to take place as clubs scramble to either fill out rosters or simply fit under the new cap.
For the purposes of this piece, we’ll simply look at the UFAs that are going to be out there for any team to scoop up on Wednesday. And we’ll do it in the form of a first and second All-Free Agent Team, because it still kind of feels like awards season.
