Thunder Trash Lakers After Durant and Bryant Have Dinner

The Los Angeles Lakers were scheduled to play a Saturday matinee against the Oklahoma City Thunder, and on Friday night the stars of both teams were spotted having dinner together:

With Kevin Durant contract due to expire after this summer, speculation about where the seven-foot star will go in free agency has been speculated about for years and will continue to flood the NBA news cycle until Durant finally makes a decision this summer. Being seen privately chatting with Mr. Kobe Bryant doesn’t exactly help extinguish public speculation.

Los Angeles’ desirability as a free agent destination had to take a bit of a hit after the teams actually played on Saturday. Oklahoma City easily beat the last-place Lakers, 118-78. Bryant sat out the game with a shoulder injury, which allowed Lou Williams (20 points) and Jordan Clarkson (15 points) to lead the team in scoring. Durant’s was the game’s high scorer, with 22 points in just 30 minutes of play. Durant also led the Thunder in minutes played, as Oklahoma City gratuitously used their bench after racing out to an early lead.

The Lakers have lost four of their last five games by more than twenty points, with the other losses coming to the San Antonio Spurs and twice to the Houston Rockets. The other game was an 18-point victory over the Milwaukee Bucks, who are the only team in the NBA to beat the 26-1 Golden State Warriors.
