St. John’s will play Iona in the headline game of the 2017 Holiday Festival at Madison Square Garden, a source told FanRag Sports on Monday.
Army will face Air Force in the second game of the doubleheader.
The event will take place on Sunday, Dec. 17th. Official tip off times are still yet to be determined.
Iona has advanced to four of the last seven NCAA Tournaments under Tim Cluess and has posted seven consecutive 20-win seasons. St. John’s returns arguably the Big East’s best back court with sophomores Marcus Lovett and Shamorie Ponds.
Earlier in the offseason, FanRag Sports reported that the Johnnies received a good commitment on the transfer market when former Quinnipiac talent Mikey Dixon decided to join the program.
The young guard averaged 16.5 points per game in his freshman season. Per NCAA transfer rules, he will have to sit next season before being eligible for the following campaign. He will have three years of eligibility remaining.
St. John’s also landed four-star talent Sidney Wilson on the recruiting trail.
In 2016-17, St. John’s finished the year 14-19 overall, with a 7-11 conference record.
