Inside the Burton US Open Snowboarding Championships

If the Ladies Halfpipe Semifinals were any indication, snowboarding fans at Vail’s Golden Peak and watching on the web are in for one helluva ride on Saturday.

The youngest girl at the Burton US Open Snowboarding Championships went the biggest in the 615-feet Super-Pipe, soaring over the 22-feet pipe walls with style. Coming off an X-Games win, Kim put together monster airs with long, sick grabs, back-to-back nines and stylish methods to register a whopping 64.25 Trick Score on her first run. Kim vaulted into first place and then went on to improve ever so slightly (65.12)in her second go-around in the halfpipe finishing the day in first place with a score of 87.62

Fourteen-year old Chloe Kim is not only the future of ladies’ snowboarding, but also very much the present. Seven-time Burton US Open Halfpipe Champion Kelly Clark, who is seventeen years older than Kim is not about to go away quietly as the gold standard on the ladies’ circuit. Clark laid down an impressive 79.49 score in her initial run then bested it with an 84.75 to close out the competition.
