Burton and the town of Vail know how to throw an impressive event, along with a mesmerizing double-cork or five.
The longest running, premier snowboarding event, the Burton US Open Snowboarding Championships return to Vail, Colorado for a third consecutive year next week. The world’s top snowboarders descend upon Vail’s Golden Peak for Slopestyle and Halfpipe competitions while participating in the World’s Greatest Snowboard Event.
FanRag Sports resident Colorado shred-head @Pat_Whitehurst will be reporting live from the competition, which takes place from March 2-7, while providing insight into the features, festivities, and sponsors that make up this incredible, world-class event.
The Women’s Slopestyle Semi Finals kick off the competition on Wednesday morning while the men take to the course in the afternoon on March 4; the Slopestyle Finals will be held on Friday, March 6 followed by an awards ceremony and a free concert featuring Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes from the Solaris stage in Vail village.
On Thursday, March 5 the Halfpipe Semi Finals take place on Golden Peak’s massive superpipe. The ladies get the day started while the men look to conquer the competition in the afternoon. The Halfpipe Finals take place on Saturday, March 7 followed by an awards ceremony and a free concert at Vail’s Solaris stage featuring Girl Talk.
All events are free and promise to bring an unmatched excitement coupled with the ability to explore Vail’s breathtaking resort including the world famous Back Bowls and Blue Sky Basin.
