It was announced on Thursday that Liverpool have brought 20-year-old winger Ryan Kent on board long term with the club, inking an extension that will carry him through the end of what is believed to be the 2022 season.

Per the official release:

“It’s a big achievement,” said Kent, following the deal’s announcement. “It’s pay off for all the hard work that’s been put in over the last few years, so it’s a big achievement for me, my mum, my dad, my family and friends that have been with me throughout this big journey. I’m looking forward to kicking on in the future now.

“It was an easy decision. I am with a manager here that is willing to play young players and invest his time into my progression as a player.

“Liverpool has the right foundations to make me a good player in the future.”

Kent has been in Liverpool’s system since he was seven, although he’s spent time outside of Anfield on two separate occasions – once with Coventry City and once with Barnsley.

An English international with one appearance at the U20 FA Cup, the winger has become a key part of Klopp’s first team plans this summer after appearing in seven of eight friendly games during the offseason. He’ll get a chance to show that keeping him on board, rather then sending him out on another loan spell, will be the right move for the Premier League side as they look to step into contention this coming year.
