Russell Westbrook’s Technical Foul Rescinded

Oklahoma City Thunder star Russell Westbrook will be allowed to play after the league rescinded his 16th technical foul that was called on Sunday against the Pacers. Per league rules, a 16th technical foul results in a one-game suspension.

Ed Malloy T’d Westbrook up in the fourth quarter during Westbrook’s one man show. There didn’t seem to be any sort of scene created, but apparently Westbrook said something that Malloy didn’t agree with.

Westbrook’s suspension would’ve been a crushing blow to the already-slim playoff hopes for the Thunder. He would’ve missed tonight’s game against the Portland Trail Blazers. The Thunder are currently tied with the New Orleans Pelicans for the final playoff spot in the West, but the Pelicans hold the tiebreaker. The Pelicans and Thunder each play the Timberwolves, while the Pelicans also have a game against the Spurs.

In addition to Westbrook being able to play, the Thunder’s chances are increased tonight because LaMarcus Aldridge has been ruled out for Portland.
