According to a Wednesday morning report from Ariel Helwani of MMA Fighting, the UFC appears to be on the verge of adding some more star power sometime in the near future. Per Helwani, the organization is “on the verge of signing” former welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre.

The two sides have reportedly agreed to terms as it stands today as they must now finalize the deal before making it official.

“While St-Pierre’s return fight has yet to be finalized, the current plan is for him to compete later this year,” wrote Helwani. “A return in the third quarter of 2017 is currently being targeted.”

The veteran mixed martial artist is in line to ink a multi-fight contract with the UFC after months of failed negotiations. The back-and-forth banter between the UFC and St-Pierre initially made it seem as though the two sides would never come to a resolution.

Despite serving as a former three-time champion at 170 pounds, it remains to be seen as to what weight class St-Pierre finds himself at upon his looming return.

It has been rumored that he would like to fight current middleweight champion Michael Bisping while the Canadian-born fighter has also been linked to lightweight champion Conor McGregor along the way. Even so, Bisping appears to be slated to fight Yoel Romero with McGregor in line to fight either Khabib Nurmagomedov or Tony Ferguson. It is also worth noting that Tyron Woodley will battle it out with Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson for the 170-pound strap next month.

The 35-year-old currently owns a 25-2 overall mixed martial arts record while notably avenging both of his previous losses.
