The Boston Red Sox will retire Pedro Martinez’s No. 45 on Tuesday in a ceremony before their game against the Baltimore Orioles.
Martinez will join Bobby Doerr (1), Joe Cronin (4), Johnny Pesky (6), Carl Yastrzemski (8), Ted Williams (9), Jim Rice (14), Carlton Fisk (27) and Jackie Robinson (42) as numbers retired by the Red Sox.
His .687 winning percentage is second in major league history. He spent seven seasons with the Red Sox and he went 117-37 with a 2.52 ERA. He has the team record for strikeouts per nine (11.0) opponent batting average (.206).
Martinez will be enducted into the Hall of Fame in July.
