After being diagnosed with torn ligaments in his right elbow, it’s been determined that Texas Rangers ace Yu Darvish will have to undergo Tommy John surgery. Darvish will miss the entire 2015 season.
If the Rangers were going to be competitive this year, it was going to take the return to full health for many, if not all, of their key contributors. No one is more key than Darvish. In his three years in MLB with Texas, Darvish has posted a 3.27 career ERA.
But injuries are becoming a concern. He finished last season with 144.1 innings compared to 209.2 innings the year prior. Replacing Darvish won’t be easy for the Rangers, to say the least.
Darvish missed a start last year with a neck injury before ending his season on August 9th with elbow inflammation. The acquisition of Yovani Gallardo becomes even more important now.
