Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder Danny Ortiz is officially on the board as a major league player. On Thursday afternoon against the Washington Nationals, Ortiz recorded his first career big league hit while singling to right field off Nationals relief pitcher Enny Romero:

Prior to registering the memorable base hit in the bottom half of the seventh inning with the Pirates leading, 8-4, Ortiz was promoted to the club’s active roster as Pittsburgh was forced to place fellow outfielder Gregory Polanco on their 10-day disabled list.
