Romance is not dead on the PGA Tour. Twenty-five year old rookie Mark Hubbard will never forget the 18th hole at Pebble Beach and neither will his fiancee Meaghan McCurley.
She said “Yes.”
Hubbard tapped in for par to complete an even-par round of 72, but it’s what happened next that will shape his future. Hubbard dropped to one knee behind the 18th green and presented the ring to his longtime girlfriend.
Hubbard credits his fiancee’s mother, and not an early Valentine’s Day gesture, for the idea of including golf in the proposal.
“If I had a really good round going, I definitely would have been thinking on 18, ‘Oh God, don’t blow this.’ But it was just a frustrating, ho-hum day, so it kind of kept my attention off the last hole,” he said.
The Pebble Beach Pro-Am is the ninth event Hubbard has played in this season. He’s made the cut in seven previous tournaments and has earned $145, 106 for his efforts. A date has not yet been set for the happy couple, nor has the carat-size and diamond style been reported.
