Pelicans SG Eric Gordon Undergoes Surgery

Marc J. Spears of Yahoo reports that New Orleans Pelicans shooting guard Eric Gordon has undergone surgery on a broken finger and will miss at least a month of play. Gordon had appeared in all 41 Pelicans games so far this season, and has not appeared in more than 70 games in a season since his rookie year in 2008-09.

Because Gordon will be a free agent this offseason, and because the Pelicans are a considerable distance out of the Western Conference playoff race, he is assumed to be a sought-after trade target as we near the NBA’s late February Trade Deadline. Bobby Marks of The Vertical hypothesized on Twitter that the injury and time missed would not affect Gordon’s trade value.

The Pelicans’ season has been especially fraught with injuries: last week, it was announced that small forward Quincy Pondexter would miss the rest of the 2015-16 season, ending his year without a game played.

Basketball-Reference projects the Pelicans as having just a 3.2% chance of making this year’s playoffs.
