The Carolina Panthers have announced today that defensive end Jared Allen sustained a broken foot during yesterday’s victory over the Seattle Seahawks, and is doubtful for the rest of the playoffs:

The Panthers acquired Allen in the middle of this season, sending a 2016 sixth-round pick to the Chicago Bears in exchange for the veteran. Allen had just signed a contract in free agency with the Bears prior to the 2014 season. The last game that Allen played with the Bears was Chicago’s 26-0 loss in Week 3 against the Seahawks.
Allen had played in 60% of the Panthers’ defensive snaps in their Divisional Round victory over the Seahawks and did not record any statistics. Defensive ends Mario Addison (played in 37% of snaps) and Kony Ealy (34% of snaps) are assumed to see larger roles when the Panthers host the Arizona Cardinals in next weekend’s NFC Championship game.
Allen had previously been to the NFC Championship Game in 2009, then as a member of the Minnesota Vikings, and lost in overtime to the New Orleans Saints.
