Team Canada found themselves struggling against Russia in the first two periods of the World Championships semifinal.
After mounting a huge third-period comeback, though, Buffalo Sabres center Ryan O’Reilly managed to score a goal in the final few minutes of the game to pull Canada ahead. An empty-net tally from Sean Couturier sealed the deal, and Canada managed to advance on a nail-biter.
Take a look at O’Reilly’s go-ahead goal:

After receiving a centering pass and seeing his first shot blocked, O’Reilly sticks with the puck to fire it on net a second time. Attempt No. 2 rang true, and Canada went up by a goal with just minutes to spare.
O’Reilly and the Buffalo Sabres had a less than impressive 2016-17 season, with frustrations becoming evident by April and the club ultimately cleaning house in the front office and coaching staff. Clearly, though, the two-way forward still has it.
