Choking up on the bat has certainly worked this season for Cincinnati Reds first baseman Joey Votto, as he entered the All-Star Break slashing .315/.427/.631 with 26 home runs and 68 RBIs.

Votto demonstrated Tuesday to MLB Network’s Mike Lowell where he places his hands on the bat depending on certain situations. That includes an ultra-conservative approach against Los Angeles Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw.

The 33-year-old is making his fifth All-Star appearance and his superb bat control has helped him walk 62 times compared to just 42 strikeouts this season in 314 at-bats.
