For the second night in a row, an NHL playoff game needed overtime. Unlike Tuesday night in Anaheim, Wednesday’s Game 3 between the Tampa Bay Lightning and New York Rangers required just one overtime period.
Tied 5-5 after three periods, Tampa Bay’s Nikita Kucherov wristed the puck past Rangers goaltender Henrik Lundqvist 3:33 into overtime. The goal was Kucherov’s seventh of the playoffs.
The Rangers jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead before the Lightining scored four consecutive goals. New York potted the next two before trading goals in the final six minutes of regulation to force overtime.
The Lightning lead the series 2-1. Game 4 is scheduled for Friday night in Tampa Bay.
