Nick Young’s past two Tuesdays have brought a range of emotions, with his game-winning jumper to beat the Thunder marking the highlight of his season last week. But tonight, the Lakers off-guard talent suffered an injury that will keep him off the court at least for the rest of the game — and probably more.

Young went down during the first quarter of Tuesday night’s Lakers-Pelicans game, being carried off the court after what is being categorized as a right Achilles strain, per Mark Medina of the Los Angeles Daily News.

During a Tim Frazier fast-break layup, Young came down awkwardly on his right leg. He immediately limped to the scorer’s table and collapsed to the  court.

This would halt what’s been a standout start for Young this season. The 31-year-old veteran has started in all 18 of the new-look Lakers’ games and has scored at a much higher clip than during Kobe Bryant’s farewell season. Young entered tonight’s road tilt averaging 14.1 points per game through 17 contests — at least 20 points in three games for the 9-8 Lakers. The Pelicans are out to a big first-half lead, so 9-9 seems likely for an improved Los Angeles outfit, one that likely will have to make a change at guard in the near future.

This is Young’s fourth season with the Lakers after prior stints with the Wizards and Clippers. Without him, the Lakers will have to turn to more of Lou Williams at the shooting guard spot.
