LB – T.J. Watt – Round 1
If the ability to get after the quarterback trickles down the family tree, the Steelers will be totally content. Watt, the brother of Houston Texans defensive end J.J. Watt, recorded 59 total tackles and 11.5 sacks in his final season with the Wisconsin Badgers.
WR – JuJu Smith-Schuster – Round 2
USC and transcendent receivers aren’t correlated over recent memory, but the Steelers, who rarely reach for receivers early in the draft, got the youngest player in the 2017 class with Smith-Schuster.
The Scout’s Take
“The Pittsburgh Steelers are quietly getting closer to being a real Super Bowl contender, with an elite offense and a young and improving defense. They have five Pro Bowl players on offense, and speed, athleticism and youth on defense. They also have coaching and player continuity.
“At times, this explosive offense is asked to carry a defense that can be a little up and down. We see a lot of creative schemes from the Steelers on both sides of the ball. As they head into 2017, they would like to improve their passing game depth, their edge pass rush and their pass coverage.” – FanRag Sports’ Gary Horton.
