NFL Draft Podcast Ep. 30: Post-free agency team needs

Mark LoMoglio/Icon Sportswire

Rob and Stan examine every NFL team to see which signing will change their team needs as they look forward to the NFL draft, before going through interesting choices in Rob’s latest big board and finishing with an NCAA tournament-themed mock draft. Check out the detailed breakdown of the NFL Draft Podcast below:

Post-Free Agency team needs (0:55)

Rob and Stan talk about all of the big signings and trades that happened over the first week and change of free agency. They check in on what teams filled major holes that they thought might be addressed early on in the draft while figuring out which new needs opened up after the first batch of signings.

Updated big board (26:58)

Rob did a full rework of his top-350 big board just to puff his chest out and show it off, and Stan gets a chance to question some of his more unique decisions. They talk about why Rob is so high on guys like Cordrea Tankersley and Carl Lawson, while he is lower than most on Solomon Thomas and Marshon Lattimore, among others.

Mock Draft: NCAA tournament football draft (43:27)

Rob and Stan line up the one-through-four seeds from each bracket and put them in a random order, and then in a turn of events, they decide to draft some of the top picks in this NFL draft back into college with new teams. Gonzaga and Butler get to kick-start programs while some of the bigger football programs get to add top talent.

The job of an NFL general manager isn’t merely about finalizing the 53-man roster. While Drew Brees is throwing touchdown passes and Robert Quinn is crushing quarterbacks, there are a flurry of decision makers looking to next year’s NFL Draft to see what kind of depth to add behind them and if there are any cheap talent to replace them with.

If they are starting their NFL Draft prep back in August, why would any self-respecting football fan wait until the NFL Combine to get in on the action?

The NFL Draft Podcast here at FanRag Sports is meant to get the wheels churning on some of the NFL’s next breakout stars before you sit down to look at your first mock draft sometime in early February. We will be breaking down some of the best draft-eligible prospects, analyzing team fits, and even trying to project team needs down the line for this podcast.
