Nearly a week after his transfer from Barcelona to Paris-Saint Germain became official, forward Neymar Jr. has been cleared to make his debut for the Ligue 1 side. Friday afternoon, the French Football Federation announced that it has received the International Transfer Certificate from the Royal Spanish Football Federation, which was needed in order to make Neymar available for matches.

Neymar’s contract with Paris-Saint Germain runs through June 30, 2022, and it remains to be seen if he is used in Sunday’s match at Guingamp by manager Unai Emery. While PSG’s attacking options already include the likes of Edinson Cavani, Angel Di Maria and fellow Brazilian international Lucas Moura, Neymar’s arrival gives the club a true international star.

“We’re happy to have him though, because he’s a great player, he’s going to be a plus for the team and will help us in our goals,” PSG midfielder Adrien Rabiot told the team website Thursday. “He’s going to be able to settle in easily thanks to the other Brazilian players and he’s young, so we’re interested in the same things, I have no doubt.”

PSG’s original payment of Neymar’s 222 million Euro release clause was rejected by La Liga, but that situation would ultimately be taken care of in order to push the transfer through. Playing alongside Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez, Neymar tallied 21 goals and 21 assists in all competitions for Barcelona last season.

And while there will be an adjustment period of sorts as he gets used to his new teammates, Neymar should be in good condition as he participated in preseason training with Barcelona. He appeared in three International Champions Cup friendlies for Barcelona last month, accounting for three goals and two assists.
