Timberwolves Tell Karl-Anthony Towns He’ll be No. 1 Pick

The Minnesota Timberwolves have told Karl-Anthony Towns that they’ll select him with the No. 1 pick in the NBA Draft on Thursday, according to Adam Zagoria.

Towns, the 7-foot center out of Kentucky, will be the pick over Duke’s Jahlil Okafor and Ohio State point guard D’Angelo Russell. All three players came out after their freshman seasons.

Towns averaged 10.6 points and 6.7 rebounds a game at Kentucky in limited minutes in John Calipari’s platoon system that was used last season. He’s viewed as the more complete big man compared to Okafor because of his defensive skill and offensive versatility, even if Okafor is better offensively on the block.

Towns will join the last two No. 1 overall picks Andrew Wiggins and Anthony Bennett in Minnesota.
