Rob Gronkowski: Most Postseason TD’s by TE

In the first quarter of Saturday’s Divisional Round game, New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski tied the NFL record for most postseason touchdowns by a tight end. In the third quarter of the same game, Gronkowski hauled in his second receiving touchdown of the day, breaking the record:

Gronkowski’s eight postseason touchdowns are also the most receiving touchdowns by any player in the playoffs since Gronkowski’s debut in 2010, topping seven apiece by wide receiver Anquan Boldin and tight end Vernon Davis.

Gronkowski could conceivably have more touchdown receptions, as he has missed three of the Patriots’ eleven postseason games over the same time span. Entering their game on Saturday against the Chiefs, the Patriots’ eleven postseason contests were tied with the Green Bay Packers and Seattle Seahawks for the most playoff games since 2010, meaning that other passcatchers have had similar opportunities to match Gronkowski for this record.

Gronkowski’s 65 career regular season touchdowns are the fourth-most by any tight end of all-time, trailing only Harold Carmichael, Antonio Gates, and all-time leader Tony Gonzalez.
