It’s an odd-numbered year, so as expected, things aren’t going well for the San Francisco Giants. Things got even worse on Friday afternoon.

According to multiple reports, ace left-hander Madison Bumgarner injured himself in a dirt bike accident Friday. The Giants sent him to the disabled list due to bruised ribs and a shoulder AC sprain.

This is just one of many things that has gone wrong for Bumgarner and the Giants this month. The left-hander owns a 3.00 ERA and 1.074 WHIP through his first 4 starts. He’s thrown a complete game, but he still doesn’t have a victory this season. He also has 28 strikeouts and just 4 walks in 27.0 innings.

Meanwhile, the Giants are off to a poor start. At 6-10, San Francisco is a half game worse than the San Diego Padres and in last place of the National League West. The Giants are also tied with the St. Louis Cardinals for the worst record in the NL.

Bumgarner emerged as an elite pitcher at 23 when he made his first All-Star Game in 2013. He has helped the Giants win three World Series titles since 2010. In 2014, he earned MVP honors in both the league championship series and World Series. Bumgarner posted a 1.03 ERA in 52.2 innings that postseason.

If Bumgarner has to miss significant time, it will be a huge loss for San Francisco. Seeing as though he landed on the 10-day disabled list, he will already miss a minimum of two turns in the rotation.

The Giants play the Colorado Rockies Friday in the first of a three-game stint at Coors Field.
