It looks like the Houston Texans and quarterback Brock Osweiler are going to catch a break when they play the Detroit Lions on Sunday. According to ESPN’s Ed Werder, Pro Bowl defensive tackle Haloti Ngata will miss another game for the Lions with a shoulder injury.
If Werder’s report ends up being true, it would be a tough loss for the Lions and a huge break for the Texans. Just earlier this week the Houston offensive line was emphatic that containing Ngata would be one of the keys to the game.
“I’ve played against him [Ngata] before and I know what type of challenge it’s going to be,” Texans right guard Jeff Allen said. “This is definitely one of those games you bring your hard hat for. He’s a big bear definitely. He’s a lot more physical this year.”
Ngata, a five-time Pro Bowler, spent most of his 11-year career with the Baltimore Ravens before joining the Lions last year. No matter what team he’s been with though, the defensive lineman has been a force to recon with. At this point he has 477 career tackles, 29.5 sacks and five interceptions from a position that is notoriously hard to produce stats from.
That being said, the Texans will certainly welcome the sight of Ngata in street clothes this week.
