Ravens Expect Terrell Suggs to Return

In an article published today by Jon Meoli of The Baltimore Sun, Ravens General Manager Ozzie Newsome indicated that he was confident that linebacker Terrell Suggs would return to play for the team in 2016. Suggs tore his Achilles in Baltimore’s first game of the season, against the Denver Broncos. 2015 was just the third season in Suggs’ 13-year career in which he missed even a single game.

The 2014 Ravens team — who featured Suggs for all 16 games — were sixth-best in the NFL in points allowed per game, at 18.9. Without Suggs for virtually all of 2015, the Ravens allowed 25.1 points per game, which was only 24th-best in the league.

With a 5-11 record this season, the Ravens slumped to their first losing season since 2007, when they also finished 5-11, under the direction of Brian Billick. Baltimore has had seven losing seasons, compared to 13 winning seasons, in their franchise history.

The Ravens are slated to have the sixth overall pick in the first round of the 2016 Draft. The last time that the Ravens made a selection in the top ten was back in 2003, when the team drafted Suggs himself with the tenth overall pick.
