The Nashville Predators have re-signed forward Frederick Gaudreau to a three-year contract, the club announced on Monday. The first two years of the contract are two-way deals, while the third and final year becomes a one-way deal.

Gaudreau gained notoriety last season by appearing in eight games for the Predators en route to their run to the Stanley Cup, scoring his first three career NHL goals all in the Stanley Cup Final. He became the first player since 1944 to pull off such a feat.

During the regular year, he appeared in just nine games with the team and collected an assist, his first regular season point. The majority of his season came in the AHL with the Milwaukee Admirals, where he scored 25 goals and added an assist on 23 others over the course of 66 games. He scored three goals in the playoffs (over three games) for them as well.

The 24-year-old from Bromont, Quebec, Canada, was signed as an undrafted free agent in June 2014 and joined Milwaukee for his first taste of the AHL. His goal total has ticked upward each season, having netted four goals in 2014-15, 15 in 2015-16, and 25 last season.

Despite his Stanley Cup heroics, it appears the Predators are tempering expectations by making his contract a two-way deal over the first two years. The team entered the playoffs tied for the fewest points of any club to make the postseason, but ran roughshod over the Western Conference, before they were stopped in the final by the Pittsburgh Penguins, who claimed the cup for the second consecutive year.
