Mets Sandy Alderson does not see September call-up for Tim Tebow

New York Mets general manager Sandy Alderson shot down the notion that the team could call up Tim Tebow from the minor leagues in September, according to ESPN.com.

“Never crossed my mind until about 10 days ago when somebody said it was likely to happen,” Alderson said. “I don’t foresee that kind of scenario.”

Tebow was promoted to advanced Class-A St. Lucie back on June 25, and since the promotion, the former NFL quarterback has been tearing it up.

In 17 games since rising the Mets’ minor-league ranks, Tebow owns a slash line of .321/.410/.566 with three home runs and 11 RBI over 61 plate appearances, including a walk-off blast to extend his hitting streak to 11 games on Thursday night.

At Class-A Columbia, Tebow slashed .220/.311/.336 while connecting with three long balls and driving in 23 runs across 244 trips to the plate.

Tebow was originally a football star, enjoying an incredibly successful career at the University of Florida that included a national championship and a Heisman Trophy.

Thanks to his collegiate success, Tebow ended up a first-round draft pick and was selected by the Denver Broncos with the 29th overall selection of the 2010 NFL Draft.

Two years later, Tebow led the Broncos to a playoff appearance and orchestrated a stunning upset of the Pittsburgh Steelers during the Wild Card Round.

However, that offseason, Denver traded Tebow to the New York Jets, and his NFL career came to a screeching halt.

Tebow primarily played special teams for the Jets, throwing only eight passes for the club in 2012.

That was the last time Tebow played in an NFL regular season game.
