Mets closer Jenrry Mejia was out of action and on the DL with elbow tightness. He’ll be out even longer than that now.
Mejia has been suspended 80 games for testing positive for the performance-enhancing drug Stanozolol. He will be suspended without pay.
The right-hander finished last season with 28 saves after taking over closing duties from the injured Bobby Parnell.
The pitcher offered this explanation, or lack thereof.
Mejia: “I know the rules and I will accept my punishment, but I honestly have no idea how a banned substance ended up in my system." #Mets
