The Cleveland Cavaliers an Golden State Warriors are tied 1-1 in the NBA Finals following Cleveland’s overtime win in Game 2. Star forward LeBron James has 83 points through the first two games of the series, including 39 in the Cavaliers’ Game 2 win.
While bringing an NBA title to Cleveland for the first time is more than enough motivation for James, there is something else fueling him.
“My motivation is to make sure my guys are ready and prepared every night we step on the floor,” James told ESPN. “And I have some other motivation that I won’t talk about right now, but I have so many different things to worry about than being an underdog or guys counting us out.”
James offered no hints about what that motivation could be, saying only: “I hope we win so I can tell y’all.”
Whatever is motivating LeBron, it’s working. He is averaging 41.5 points, 12 rebounds and 8.5 assists through two games. He is leading a team without two other stars, Kyrie Irving, who suffered a broken knee cap in overtime of Game 1, and Kevin Love.
The pivotal Game 3 is scheduled for later tonight in Cleveland. Tip off is scheduled for 9 p.m. Eastern.
