A Louisiana jury has ruled against the plaintiff in a civil suit against Washington Redskins linebacker Junior Galette. The case stemmed from a relationship Galette had with a woman while he was a member of the New Orleans Saints.

Galette had been accused of allegedly physically and mentally abusing the woman, but charges stemming from a 2015 incident in his Kenner, La., home were thrown out a month after they were filed.  The woman later filed a civil lawsuit seeking approximately $60,000 for medical treatment for the next three years, however the jury found in Galette’s favor Wednesday after a three-day trial.

“It was money,” Galette said after the verdict was announced. “It is what it is. I just have to do a better job surrounding myself with better people. This was a lesson for me. A tough one. This was the incident that got me out of here because I met with the coaches maybe a week after this, and basically had gotten the message that I was about to be released.”

During the trial, the jury heard from both Galette and his best friend, Terrence Banks, in addition to several others, including the woman who filed the suit.

Although currently a member of the Redskins, the 29-year-old defender has yet to suit up for Washington because of a string of leg injuries. Galette has not played in a regular-season NFL game since back in 2014-15 as a member of the New Orleans Saints as the result of two devastating Achilles injuries, one to each leg.

Spending five seasons in New Orleans, Galette has produced 128 total tackles, 31.5 sacks, five forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and four pass defenses in all. Appearing in 64 career regular-season NFL games over the years, he has also appeared in 16 regular-season games on three separate occasions.
