Former Denver Broncos quarterback John Elway has since transformed into Denver Broncos executive vice president of football operations and general manager John Elway. While remaining in Denver since all the way back in 1983-84, the Super Bowl winning quarterback is now looking to sign a new contract to remain with the Broncos for years to come.

However, Elway has yet to ink his new pact with the Broncos as the month of July hits its midway point.

“I look forward to being here with the Broncos for a long time,” Elway said back in May, via the Denver Post.

The once heralded quarterback also noted that he didn’t have “any doubt” that a new contract would get signed before the start of the 2017-18 season.

“I thought it would be done, because normally you don’t have a very good executive potentially being a lame duck,” former sports agent Joel Corry added, via the Denver Post. “The season doesn’t start until September, so there’s still time, but usually you get those things ironed out before this time, before the draft.”

Spending his entire NFL playing career in Denver, a tenure that ranged from 1983-84 to 1998-99, the 57-year-old front office executive notably won two Super Bowls as a quarterback before adding a third as the Broncos executive vice president of football operations and general manager.

“Which puts Elway in a unique position, because when you think Denver Broncos, he’s synonymous with the team,” Corry continued. “He’s got more leverage than any GM has had in quite a long time, because what were the Broncos like before he got there? It’s kind of hard to argue with the on-field success.”
