David Fizdale ranted and made lineup changes, and his Memphis Grizzlies responded with an impressive 105-94 victory over the San Antonio Spurs in Game 3. The Spurs still lead the series 2-1, but things got a bit more interesting thanks to this outcome.
The first half went back and forth, with the Grizzlies taking a four-point lead into halftime. Memphis then came out gangbusters in the second half, outscoring San Antonio 31-17 to blow the game wide open. Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich even pulled his entire starting lineup less than a minute into the third quarter thanks to the sluggish start to the frame.
San Antonio never threatened in the fourth quarter.
Mike Conley led a balanced scoring effort for the Grizzlies with 24 points and eight assists. Zach Randolph, who was inserted into the starting lineup, dominated down low to the tune of 21 points and eight rebounds. Marc Gasol also poured in 21 points. James Ennis was another new insertion into the starting lineup, and he added 12 points. Even Wayne Selden had 10 points off the bench.
Memphis shot 50.6 percent from the field after really struggling offensively in the first two games of the series.
Nobody stood out for San Antonio. Kawhi Leonard dominated the first two games with absolutely silly numbers, but the MVP candidate had a ho-hum outing in Game 3 with 18 points on 6-of-11 shooting. While that’s not bad, the Spurs need more from him. LaMarcus Aldridge had a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds.
The Grizzlies will try to make it two straight wins on Saturday after losing nine straight playoff games to San Antonio prior to Thursday.
