Tommy Tuberville coached Texas Tech for just three seasons from 2010-12, but he was in Lubbock, Texas, long enough to know he was not a huge fan of the area.

Tuberville expressed his distaste for the area Wednesday on “Rick & Bubba,” a nationally syndicated radio program based in Alabama.

“You run me off at Auburn and you ship me to Lubbock, Texas,” Tuberville said. “I’m going to tell you what, that’s like going to Siberia. Somebody asked me, ‘What’s Lubbock look like?’ It looked like Iraq.”

Despite his dislike of Lubbock as a town, he still made sure to note some positives from his tenure at Texas Tech.

“Well, I love those people out there,” he said.

Tuberville, who served as Cincinnati’s head coach from 2013-16 after leaving Texas Tech, had a 20-17 overall record in his three seasons with the Red Raiders. He took over for Mike Leach and led Texas Tech to a win over Northwestern in the TicketCity Bowl his first season at the helm, becoming the second coach in the program’s history to win a bowl game in their first season.

After racking up a 29-22 record in three seasons with Cincinnati, Tuberville announced his resignation and has yet to accept another position.

Tuberville spent the bulk of his head-coaching career at Auburn (1999-08), leading the Tigers to eight consecutive bowl games, including five New Year’s Day bowl berths. He worked as head coach from Ole Miss from 1995-98 and before that spent a season as Texas A&M’s defensive coordinator.

Tuberville has an all-time collegiate coaching record of 159-99.
