The Arizona Coyotes announced on Tuesday morning that Jim Playfair – who serves as an associate coach with the organization – and Steve Peters, the team’s video coach, have been inked to extensions with the club.
Per the team’s official release, the length and monetary value of either extension have not been released.
Playfair has worked in the Coyotes organization as a coach with Dave Tippett since 2011. Prior to joining the Coyotes, he had been with the Calgary Flames organization, coaching within the fellow Pacific Division club’s system for 11 seasons as both a head and assistant coach. Just prior to getting hired by Arizona, Playfair had been the head coach of the AHL’s Abbotsford Heat.
“We are very pleased to sign Jim to a multi-year extension,” said Chayka. “Jim has done an outstanding job developing our young defensemen and he brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to our bench. We are thrilled to have him back for several more seasons.”
Peters, on the other hand, has been working with the Coyotes for the last 20 years. He joined Arizona in 1997, and has been the team’s video coach ever since.
“Steve is one of the best video coaches in the NHL,” said Chayka. “He is extremely knowledgeable and very well-prepared. He’s a valuable member of Dave Tippett’s coaching staff.”
A member of the 1987 NCAA Division I Championship team at the University of North Dakota, Peters is also the video coach for Team North America this fall at the 2016 World Cup of Hockey.
