Charles Oakley is making his return to the hardwood. Oakley has served as the coach of the Killer 3’s in the BIG3 this summer, but with his team eliminated from playoff contention, he will suit up this weekend at the Staples Center in Los Angeles and make his on-court debut.

Oakley’s Killer 3’s squad has gone 2-5 in the BIG3’s inaugural season. They matchup against Trilogy, who has gone 7-0 this year. The Killer 3’s possess the league’s far and away leading rebounder, Reggie Evans, who has snagged 87 rebounds, 35 more than the next closest player. The team also has Stephen Jackson, who is second in the league in scoring (151 points), just a point behind Rashard Lewis for the league lead.

Oakley last appeared in an NBA game back during the 2003-04 season as a member of the Houston Rockets. He averaged a double-double for five consecutive seasons from 1986-91, finishing his career averaging 9.7 points and 9.5 rebounds per game, while having been named an All-Star in 1994.

He played in over 1,200 NBA games during his career, the majority of which came as a member of the New York Knicks. Recently, stemming from an incident last season with Knicks owner James Dolan, Oakley agreed to a one-year ban from the World’s Most Famous Arena.

Now at 53 years old, Oakley has stepped into a coaches role. It has not been announced how much run he’ll get during the team’s final game, but he will join his team of Evans, Jackson, and player captain Chauncey Billups on the court.
