It was the Cubs that won the offseason, but the Cardinals showed on Opening Night that they’re still the ones winning games.
Adam Wainwright threw six scoreless innings, and the Cubs were 0-13 with runners in scoring position as the Cardinals captured the Opening Night 3-0 win at Wrigley Field.
All three Cardinals runs were scored off Jon Lester, the $155 million man signed by the Cubs this offseason. Lester didn’t make it out of the fifth inning, finishing with a line of 4.1 IP, 8 hits, six strikeouts, two walks and three runs.
Jason Heyward finished 3-5 at the plate with two doubles and a run scored in his St. Louis debut.
The teams will play again on Tuesday after an off-day Monday.
