UPDATE: According to sources, left tackle Jared Veldheer needs surgery on his partially torn triceps. He had the injury before and missed 10 weeks as a result, so he will miss a significant amount of time.
The Arizona Cardinals will be on their bye week shortly and it will mean time off for the players. For general manager Steve Keim though, there will be no time off as the he apparently will be busy. Keim claimed on Monday that there would be some upcoming roster changes during the bye week.
“I would say there will be a few,” Keim said during an appearance on the “Doug and Wolf” show on Arizona Sports 98.7. “We’ll take a look at some different players. There should be a change or two.”
Ultimately the roster moves that Keim makes may be more so forced as opposed to moves made to improve the team. The Cardinals have suffered several injuries on the offensive line this year, so his attention may be directed towards helping that unit.
In particular, the GM said starting left tackle Jared Veldheer has a triceps injury and could miss a significant amount of time. The team is still determining the extent of the injury, but it’s clear that the Cardinals are concerned it could be a long-term thing. As a result, it wouldn’t be a surprise if the team adds a tackle during the bye.
In addition to the injury update, Keim reiterated that the Cardinals control their own destiny at this point and he noted that the second half of the season would be a test of his team’s toughness.
“We will certainly see the second half of the season how many of these guys are mentally tough,” Keim said. “This team hasn’t faced a lot of adversity the last few years. Now, we have.”
