UPDATE:Head coach Dirk Koetter said the injury is ankle related and had this to say about the injury to Rodgers after the game: “I’m not sure. I don’t think it’s probably good.”
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are starting to get very thin at running back. The latest person to go down is Jacquizz Rodgers, as he left Sunday’s contest against the Oakland Raiders with a foot injury and has been declared out for the remainder of the game.
The injury leaves the Buccaneers in dire straits at the running back position. With Rodgers now out, the team has lost three running backs this year. In addition to Rodgers, Doug Martin has been out with a hamstring injury and Charles Sims was placed on IR a few weeks back with a knee injury. As a result, the Buccaneers are now down to Antoine Smith, who just signed with the team last week.
For Rodgers, the injury could not come at a worse time. The former fifth-round pick out of Oregon State seemed to be finding his stride in Tampa Bay this year. Just last week he broke Martin’s career record in the first half with 103 first half rushing yards against the San Francisco 49ers last week.
That being said, the Buccaneers might have to change their plan with Martin after this latest injury. The two-time Pro Bowler injured his hamstring back in September and the team has been very cautious with his return. Unfortunately with so many injuries at running back, they may change their plan and attempt to bring back Martin sooner rather than later.
