Brad Pickett ‘humbled’ to be Urijah Faber’s final opponent

The closing of a legendary MMA career is coming, and Brad Pickett gets to be a part of it as he stands opposite Urijah Faber at UFC on FOX 22 for what Faber has called his retirement fight.

Not only that, but Faber’s last fight will be taking place in his hometown of Sacramento, California. Pickett will almost surely be booed by the hometown fans for Faber as he competes in his career swan song, but Pickett is absolutely joyed by the opportunity.

“When I was offered this fight I was pumped,” Pickett said, via MMA Fighting. “It has relit a fire in me that I was worried was slowly burning out. Faber is a true pioneer of the sport. He is an excellent role model and a ridiculously talented athlete and I’m humbled that I get to share the Octagon with him in his hometown for his last fight.

“When I saw your announcement this evening, I texted him straight away letting him know how honored I was to be his last opponent.”

Bother Faber and Pickett came from the WEC ranks, before UFC had weight classes below lightweight.

Faber was the pioneer for the lower weight classes, who gave it popularity before they were granted the main stage of UFC in 2011. Both men have fought in UFC ever since.

Faber and Pickett are known for their exciting, explosive styles that have put on many memorable fights separately over the years, and Pickett promises Faber’s last fight will be no different.

“I know we’re going to put on a good old fashioned scrap to send him out in style,” Pickett said. “It will be one no one will forget, I’m sure we’ll both make sure of that.”
