Linebacker Vontaze Burfict was at practice today for the Bengals, but he was not dressed. According to Jim Owczarski:
“Burfict is not in a jersey and helmet today for the Bengals.”
While he could be hurt and the team just hasn’t said anything about it yet, many believe there’s likely nothing wrong. Jay Morrison noted that:
“Burfict not dressed for practice. Not on injury report yesterday, so likely a routine off day.”
The LB has been in the news a lot lately, but not for injuries that he’s sustained. Instead, he’s been accused of trying to hurt other players. Steelers’ RB DeAngelo Williams even said:
“It’s fine for somebody to go in and purposefully try to hurt someone. I don’t get it…He just got fined, no ban. We’re already in this fight, this struggle of NFL players versus NFL owners. Why would we self-implode with a player of our own that’s one of us trying to hurt one of us?… I’m trying to figure out why one of us, a football player, would purposefully try to hurt another football player in hopes to gain a competitive edge. That’s crazy to me. It’s beyond costing you games. Not only that, you’re putting other people’s livelihood, how they take care of their family, into play.”
Burfict has been fined more than any other player recently, including $75,000 for stomping on Patriots’ RB LeGarrette Blount. Last year, he hit Steelers’ WR Antonio Brown in the head and did get a three-game suspension for it. He had to serve that suspension to start this season, but hasn’t changed his style of play.
