Auburn lands four-star linebacker Kenney Britt

While it may be hard for non-Auburn fans to not think of the inconsistent Los Angeles Rams’ wide receiver when hearing about the Tigers’ latest commitment, the Alabama-based program has received a key commitment from a four-star linebacker talent. An in-state product, Kenney Britt pledged to attend Auburn on Monday and tabbed the Tigers for his future over several heavy-hitter programs.

Britt chose Auburn over Alabama, Georgia and Stanford, Steve Wiltfong of 247Sports reports, The high school senior emerged as a national prospect during a standout 2015 junior season and the 6-0, 232-pound linebacker’s inflated his stock further as a senior.

Leading Oxford (Ala.) High School to its first 10-0 regular season since 2007, after the school finished 3-7 in 2015, Britt has been a stalwart on Oxford’s second defensive level. He made 126 tackles in just 10 games in 2015, 22 of them for loss, and forced five fumbles to help place him on the national recruiting scene.

“He’s going to be a coach’s dream in the meeting room, on the practice field and on the game field,” Oxford head coach Ryan Herring said, via Wiltfong. “Just a high-character kid that does everything coaches ask him to do. He’s got some tangibles you can see, but the intangibles as far as leadership, he’s the best leader I’ve coached on the field.”

This is head coach Gus Malzahn’s 15th commit for his 2017 recruiting class while 247Sports ranks Britt as the nation’s 15th-best inside linebacker. In Malzahn’s committed class, nine such prospects hold a four-star rating or greater. He is also the third inside linebacker in the class, joining Tadarian Moultry (the nation’s No. 3 inside linebacker, per 247Sports) and three-star recruit Chandler Wooten.
