Los Angeles Angels right-handed pitcher Parker Bridwell will start in place of the injured Matt Shoemaker against the New York Yankees on Tuesday, according to Mike DiGiovanna of The Los Angeles Times.

Shoemaker hit the 10-day disabled list on Saturday due to soreness in his right forearm.

Bridwell has pitched in two games for the Angels this season, making one start. Over 9.2 innings of work, the 25-year-old has allowed three earned runs on 13 hits and two home runs, striking out five batters.

Los Angeles acquired Bridwell in a trade with the Baltimore Orioles back in April.

The righty briefly appeared with the Orioles last season, pitching 3.1 innings and surrendering five runs on five hits.

Bridwell was originally selected by Baltimore in the ninth round of the 2010 MLB June Amateur Draft.

He has appeared in 152 minor-league games, going 33-47 with a meager 4.74 ERA.

Shoemaker had gotten off to a rough start with the Angels this year.

The 30-year-old made 14 starts prior to the injury, registering a record of 6-3 and posting a 4.52 ERA across 77.2 frames of action. He gave up 73 hits and 15 home runs, striking out 69 batters.

Back in 2014, Shoemaker went 16-4 with a 3.04 ERA and finished second in American League Rookie of the Year voting.

He is 38-30 with a 3.87 ERA over the course of his four-year major-league career.

The Angels are currently 36-36 and sit 11.5 games behind the Houston Astros for first place in the American League West Division.

They will wrap up a three-game series with the Kansas City Royals on Sunday afternoon.
