The NBA released its schedule for the upcoming season Thursday and the league certainly didn’t disappoint with a host of quality opening-week matchups, starting Oct. 17.
For the opening night, fans will get to see an Eastern Conference Finals rematch with the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Boston Celtics. It will also feature the new-look Houston Rockets with Chris Paul at point guard taking on the reigning champions, the Golden State Warriors.
On Oct. 18, the Philadelphia 76ers and The Process, highlighted by the No. 1 overall pick in this year’s NBA Draft, Markelle Fultz, will head out Washington to take on the Wizards and John Wall, who was rewarded with a monstrous contract extension this offseason. The Western Conference counters that Wednesday with the Jimmy Butler-led Minnesota Timberwolves against Kawhi Leonard and the San Antonio Spurs, who are coming off a defeat to the Warriors in the conference finals.
One of the newest tandems in the league — Paul George and Russell Westbrook — will debut in front of the Oklahoma City Thunder faithful against the New York Knicks on Oct. 19. Los Angeles Lakers rookie point guard Lonzo Ball will also get the first chance to square off against the in-town Los Angeles Clippers that night.
The KIA Tip-Off slate ends Oct. 20, beginning with a matchup of LeBron James and the Cavaliers against Giannis Antetokounmpo and the upstart Milwaukee Bucks. Then for the Western Conference, Stephen Curry and the Warriors will take on the New Orleans Pelicans and their ferocious post duo of Anthony Davis and DeMarcus Cousins.
