There are so many outstanding prospects in professional baseball; it is a daunting task to single out those players that should be considered the Top-50 among their peers.

Like any listing, readers may agree or disagree. Good players are always omitted. For example, I would have really liked to have included guys like Yandy Diaz (Indians), Alex Verdugo (Dodgers), Luis Ortiz (Brewers), Christian Arroyo (Giants), Ronald Acuna (Braves), and Tyler Beede (Giants). The numbers just caught up with me. And there are more. Many more players that I didn’t have room to include.

Some players may be ranked too highly in the opinion of some and others too low. It’s all in the eye of the beholder.

The standards used to determine the Top 50 players included the following:

  • The potential impact the player will make on his organization
  • The potential impact the player will make on major league baseball
  • Over time, the potential for the player to become among the best players in his particular role or position
  • The potential success the player will have as opposed to other players in the same role or position

The exact position of each Top-50 players among the rest of the group can also be debated. Quite frankly, in many cases the differences are miniscule. In essence, with the exception of perhaps the top-ten players listed, many names can easily be interchangeable in their rankings.
