Michael Oher Unhappy With ‘The Blind Side’ Portrayal

Carolina Panthers offensive tackle Michael Oher is probably more famous for his character being played in a movie than he is for being an NFL player. That fact isn’t lost on the offensive lineman, who says his career has been negatively impacted by “The Blind Side.”

“I’m not trying to prove anything,” Oher told ESPN. “People look at me, and they take things away from me because of a movie. They don’t really see the skills and the kind of player I am. That’s why I get downgraded so much, because of something off the field.

“This stuff, calling me a bust, people saying if I can play or not … that has nothing to do with football. It’s something else off the field. That’s why I don’t like that movie.”

The movie made more than $300 million and lead actress Sandra Bullock won a Golden Globe award and an Oscar for her performance in the film. The popularity of the movie has changed people’s perception of Oher.

“That’s taken away from my football,” Oher said. “That’s why people criticize me. That’s why people look at me every single play.”
