Matt Kenseth Wins at Bristol

Matt Kensenth battled a plethora of drivers in addition to the rain en route to a stop in victory lane after winning the Food City 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway on Sunday.

Kenseth, who led 47 laps in total, fought off Jimmie Johnson and Jeff Gordon on a restart to win for the first time since September of 2013. It’s been 51 races since Kenseth’s last win. He started from the pole position.

The race was delayed four times due to rain, and it took over nine hours to complete the race. The beginning of the race was delayed by almost 90 minutes, and one of the delays in the middle of the race took close to four hours.

Kevin Harvick finished with a race-high 184 laps led, but he finished just 38th after a wreck.

Kurt Busch (98 laps led) and Carl Edwards (86 laps led) wrecked after the initial restart to finish the race, causing them to finish 15th and 24th respectively. Kyle Larson led 90 laps and finished 7th.

Meanwhile, Denny Hamlin didn’t return to the race once it was halted at lap 22 after suffering a strain in his neck. He was replaced by 18-year-old Erik Jones.

The Sprint Cup series travels to Richmond International Raceway for a night race on Saturday.
