Kyle Larson won the FireKeepers Casino 400 at Michigan International Speedway on Sunday afternoon. Chase Elliott followed up in second while Joey Logano finished third. Held in Brooklyn, Mich., the race was the first of two NASCAR Monster Energy Cup series events at the 2-mile track during the season.

Kyle Busch led the pack with 30 laps to go, though debris on the track and a caution put a stop to the action with under 25 to go. Once Clint Bowyer was sent into the wall to warrant another caution with 15 laps remaining, Larson took the lead while Elliott, who jumped Busch, moved into second place.

Shortly after a restart with 10 laps to go, Danica Patrick got the worst of a bunch-up after making contact with Daniel Suárez, as she was sent flying off the track and into the wall.

With yet another restart with five laps left, Larson lead the pack with Denny Hamlin in second and Logano in third

Martin Truex Jr. was a lone point ahead of Larson in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series, though Larson lead the field of 37 entries on Sunday.

The race has had a wide variety of winners over the past handful of years, with Hamlin having been the last back-to-back winner in 2010 and 2011. Logano was the reigning winner at Michigan’s FireKeepers Casino 400 after he led 138 of the 200 laps a year ago.

Michigan has been kind to Larson in the past. He registered his first career Monster Energy Series there in August 2016. During Friday’s qualifying, the 24-year-old posted the fastest time to earn the pole position.
